FolaPro® features the methylated form of folate called L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate as Metafolin®. Unlike folic acid, this form of folate requires no additional metabolic steps to be utilized by the body, making it a preferred choice for many individuals. Folate is an essential nutrient for many body processes, including hormone metabolism, DNA synthesis, homocysteine metabolism, and nervous system function.*

This was prescribed to me by a doctor for the MTHFR genetic abnormality I share with so many others- which render folic acid useless to us- so we have to get folate directly. While there are other less expensive choices out there, only this one was acceptable to my doctor's functional medicine department, and hopefully ends up being less costly than meds... or the medical problems it prevents!

I have confirmed MTHFR gene mutations. My doc at the time prescribed Metagenics FolaPro. I also had a consultation with the genetics team from a major teaching hospital and the head said he was very happy with me taking the Metagenics FolaPro. It is a form of folate that needs no further metabolization from your body, which is exactly what I needed because the mutation affects my body's ability to process folic acid.
